“I think I’m losing control of the whole world.” – Charlie Brown

Whenever I see Charlie Brown Cymbidium Orchids I am assailed by the Peanuts quotes that made up my life: Growing up, I lived in a world coloured in by my imagination, struggling to be restrained. Flowers do that to me. What do flowers do to you?

From The Outside Looking In

It's midnight in Alhambra and the scent of Jasmine and Tuberose hangs heavy in the air. I've come back from a Turkish Bath and Tapas to find the pictures uploaded. I suddenly feel an overwhelming sense of being homesick. It's rare I am away, rare that the flowers are unpacked and I don't get to see first hand what's in the fridge and what's in the shop for sale.  I call Amanda - she's on a webinar, "call back in 15" she said, too engrossed to talk. I am left in the still of the night, looking at the images she'd captured earlier today.

Please go into the shop for me. Stand still in the door way and let your eyes become accustomed to the light. Breathe in the heady fragrance of the flowers. They are there for the taking.

It takes one voice

I have to say I almost wept when I saw Amanda's photos today. She's gone back to using her Nikon and all I could see was the purity of her images. This beauty of her work defines her as a photographer. I think that was what I was missing with the Instagram shots - anyone could have done them. Heck, even I could have done them.

Phalaenopsis Orchid

I realised, in looking at the images, that we all interpret what we see, smell, touch, feel and hear in our own way. No two experiences are the same. What we come to believe, and how we form our beliefs, is through these experiences.

I want more out of life. I want to see the beauty in the flowers we bring in, even if I can't be in the shop. I want to touch the screen as if doing so I would be able to feel their velvety softness. I want the images to make me want to lean forward and smell their individual fragrance. Not all flowers do that to me but the ones we bring in do.

But don't take my word for it, come in and experience for yourself our flowers. As always available in limited quantities just for you. xox

I am heading off to Europe on tonight's flight and I promise you this - I shall be stopping to smell the flowers; actually, I might even Instagram a couple of them too!
