The Blushing Bride

Several years ago I designed a martini cocktail I called The Blushing Bride. Its colour is more intoxicating than its alcoholic truth serum effect. It's the colour of a child's rosy cheeks when they first wake. It is the colour of fat summer clouds infused with the dying sun just before twilight. It is the colour of mystery and innocence. It is the colour of this miniature protea - aptly called Blushing Bride.

The flowers in the shop this week are vivid, carefree and exotic. But don't take my word for it - come in and see for yourself. As always in limited quantities, as always just for you.

CARING FOR YOUR FLOWERS

Cut Flowers
There are several ways to ensure that your flowers last longer. Before arranging your flowers in a vase, trim the stems on a slight angle. Top up the container regularly with fresh water. Keep your flowers away from drafts and direct sunlight -- the cooler the room, the longer your flowers will last. Remove spent flowers as they fade.

Hand Tied Arrangements
Our hand tied flowers are presented cinched at the waist in a cellophane package filled with water. Once the flowers arrive home, they should be transferred to a vase. Fill the vase two-thirds full of cool water. Untie the package over a sink (otherwise the water will spill onto the counter) and transfer the arrangement to your vase. Check the water level regularly as flowers get thirsty, replacing the water completely every few days.
