To say the past few weeks have been a whirlwind is an understatement. Since coming back from the Flower Wild work shop at the end of March, we've been thrown into catching up with proposals and emails, final meetings with brides and presenting the mock ups of centrepieces and bouquets for wedding days. And, dare I say, starting the count down for our opening of 19 Queen.
Ranunculus
In amongst all the chaos, our beloved Petals van that has been faithfully with us since 2002, held up her exhaust pipe in quiet protest and cried out for retirement.
On Thursday, between racing from a site meeting, checking on the delivery of the new fridge, selecting vases for 19 Queen and ordering a new van, the flower shipment arrived. Long rectangular heavy duty boxes containing carefully wrapped precious goods; flowers sourced from all over the world.
I am never content with mediocre. I want stunningly beautiful, discussion-worthy, interesting, jaw-dropping OMG flowers. I loved that even with the madness of the day, the bombardment of emails, calls, texts and appointments, I couldn't help but stop and inspect the shipment. Gingerly I lifted the cardboard lids to find an array of blooms laid tightly wrapped in their cocoon of cotton wool, tissue and cardboard on beds of still cold ice packs.
In the craziness of our lives, we all deserve something that makes one stop, if only for a moment, demanding you to be present. It makes me smile that even though it's Sunday, all I can think about are the flowers that arrived now sitting in the quietness of the design studio. As each moment passes, they languidly shake off their jet lag and slowly bloom while waiting for Monday. Then they will be given with love and affection to someone or sit in an office and bring colour and design not only to the recipient but to collegues, rushing by, lost in their own demands of appointments, phone calls and emails.
