From Bud to Bloom

Before Christmas I dropped off the pink lilies for Amanda to photograph. Each bud was tightly closed hiding everything they were, everything that could be. It had been cold and they were in no hurry; days past before they began to unfurl. Each taking their own sweet time, each day their petals revealing a changing fuchsia landscape. The living room heady with their fragrance.

Just before New Year's, the blooms began to get drunk on time and oxygen, each petal stretching to their extremity, boasting their black messy stamen, hungry for attention. Two stems, each in their own time zone, but oblivious to the other.
